I. What is 5S Shadow Board?
Shadow boards are one of the most important aspects of 5S and Lean manufacturing. The design and construction of the shadow board should be customized for the area intended for its use.
II. Why Use a 5S Shadow Board?
Tool boards are essentially used to create the visual workplace. Often, tools are placed in a cabinet or toolbox, where tools begin to accumulate, making it difficult to know when tools are missing. Use of tool boards is called “going vertical.” The following are the benefits of a tool board:
- Provides visibility of tools
- Reduces time needed to locate tools
- Provides immediate feedback on what is missing
- Opens floor space as cabinets and tables become unnecessary
